How to Change your Calorie or Points Budgets

This article explains how to change your calorie or points budget (e.g daily/weekly allowances).

Changing your Calorie or Points Budget

By default, your calorie or points budgets are automatically calculated, but you also have the ability to set a fixed budget.

Automatically Calculated Budget

ProTracker Plus will automatically calculate your calorie or points budgets based on the weight loss program you're using, along with various profile settings such as: weight, height, age, biological sex, weekly goal, activity level, and nursing mode.

The following two are the biggest factors that will affect your automatically calculated budget.

Weekly Goal

The Weekly Goal is your desired weight loss/gain rate on a per week basis. It directly controls the deficit we apply to your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) to get to your final daily calorie budget.

Take a look a this article to learn more about how to change your Weekly Goal.

Logging Weight Loss/Gain

As you track your weight in ProTracker Plus, we'll automatically recalculate your calorie or points budgets to adjust to your new weight.

Diary Tracked Activity

Any activity you track in you diary will affect the calculated points value for that day.

Setting a Fixed Budget

You also have the option to set a fixed budget that does not change with the factors listed above. The steps to do this are slightly different depending on which weight loss program you're using.

Calories Users:

You can manually set your daily calorie allowance in the iOS app:

  1. Go to the More tab
  2. Tap "Goals"
  3. Set your Weekly Goal to "maintain weight"
  4. Scroll down to the "Nutrition Goals" section
  5. Tap "Calorie Goal"
  6. Disable "Automatic"
  7. Input your manual calorie goal
Points Users:

You can manually set your daily and weekly points allowances in the iOS app:

  1. Go to the More tab
  2. Tap "Goals"
  3. Set your Weekly Goal to "maintain weight"
  4. Scroll down to the "Maintenance Goals" section
  5. Tap "Daily Allowance Target" to change your daily allowance
  6. Tap "Weekly Allowance Target" to change your weekly allowance

Note: Setting a fixed calorie budget means your budget will not change as you log weight loss/gain. The budget will stay the same until it is manually changed or you set a new weekly weight loss rate. This setting is only recommended if a medical or nutrition professional has provided a daily calorie budget for you.
