How to Use the Barcode Scanner
In this article, we’ll cover how to scan a barcode on iOS, how to edit a barcode if the information is outdated, and how to submit new barcodes to our database.
How to Scan a Barcode on iOS
Note: You need to give the camera permissions to the ProTracker Plus app in order to use the barcode scanner. To do this:
- On your iPhone go to Settings
- Scroll down to ProTracker Plus
- Tap ProTracker Plus
- Make sure that the camera is toggled to On
To Scan a Barcode in the iOS App
- Go to the Diary tab
- Tap “Add Food” next to a meal
- Tap the floating circular Barcode icon
- Align the box with the barcode you’re scanning
- The camera should autofocus and scan the item
How to Edit Incorrect Information
Since users are able to edit the barcode after scanning an item, you might run across some inaccuracies in the database.
After scanning the item you can edit it. To do this:
- On the screen where your scanned entry pulls up the nutritional information, scroll to the Other Options section
- Tap "Suggest an Edit"
- It’ll bring you to the Edit Food Screen
- Correct any information that's incorrect
- Tap "Submit"
Correcting a barcode will apply the changes for the next person who scans it within the next 24 hours.
How to Submit a new Barcode
Sometimes you'll scan a barcode that's not in our database yet.
You can submit this barcode to us for review. To do this:
- Scan a barcode
- If the item is not found, an alert will appear
- Tap "Submit Barcode"
- It’ll bring you to the Edit Food Screen
- Input as much information as you'd like
- Tap "Submit"
Correcting a barcode will apply the changes for the next person who scans it within the next 24 hours.
